A little bit about me! (Faith Fox)


Hello! My name is Faith Fox. I grew up in Virginia Beach. I have lived in a couple different places. San Diego to Texas to Key West and now Saint Petersburg. My major is Information Studies: Information Architecture (BGS). I love the ocean and sunshine. I fell in love with Key West while living there for 3 years and am setting myself up to eventually move back. My hobbies include art, paddle boarding, cooking, printmaking, reading, journaling and dog training. I am an artist and designer by trade, and own a studio/business, "Poppynell" DBA RnF Studio LLC. We specialize in freelance graphic design, branding and fine art. I started my business in 2017 and that has been a main source of my income since. Before my business, I used to wait tables and work at an elementary school part time as a teachers aid. My personal favorite social media platform is instagram because I'm familiar with it and use it to share my life with close friends and family. My favorite business platform is facebook . A large majority of my commisions and jobs come from facebook. I believe that is because facebook brings in an older crowd and those type of people are in the place in their life to commission art and have trouble with technology. Instagram is a platform that brings me the younger entrepreneurs looking for logos and branding packs. This is not my first time creating a blog. I only created a blog in high school for a school project. I don't have an opinion on blogs yet because I have little experience with making/using them. I do read blogs sometimes. Mostly for cooking recipes. 

I am excited to broaden my knowledge on social media, information and algorithms.

    Hi Faith,
    So interesting that you are an artist and run your own company.

    Sorry I'm going to take this opportunity to teach our class a little bit. It is be worth knowing that "older" people don't have any more problems with technology than any other people. It is a myth that anyone is born digital. Everyone has to learn and practice. You'll notice that there is a wide variety of ability and experience in this course but there aren't a wide variety of ages in this class. "Older people" use Facebook because that was what was available when they entered the world of social media or because their friends were already on Facebook older people joined that platform too. Also, Insta is also a Meta product and works hand-in-hand with Facebook. It isn't an age thing as much as a "where your friends are" thing.

    That is a fabulous point! I didn't think about the "where your friends are" and the older generations dominance on facebook because thats what was available at the time. My ideology was based more of clientele similarities :) Also, instagram and facebook being intertwined by Meta has made a lot of things easier for me personally regarding posting and connecting with people :)

                  After reading We Are Data -Preface and introduction, I was surprised to learn more about the EU google restrictions. I was although I am aware of some of the things that the preface and introduction talked about, I still found it very creepy in a way how were all categorized by our internet usage. I logged into the   www.google.ads/preferences   and was looking through everything, surprisingly, they are very accurate. To the point of knowing personal things like we are trying to get pregnant.
